Without a doubt spring has blown in with the breeze and I recommend you head over to Rojo<\/a> for Happy Hour<\/a> after work today to kick it off El Mariachi<\/a><\/em> style with $2.25 domestics, $3.00 imports, and $7.25 PBR pitchers. Once you find yourself slightly inebriated and filled to the max with your choice of Latin or American cuisine, I know the comic nerd in you is going to guide you to the nearest theatre to see Watchmen<\/a>, but I wouldn’t miss the Ben Kweller show at Workplay<\/a>. Tonight is the night for this sort of revelry because tomorrow and Sunday are to be spent outdoors, per my orders (I was pre-med, so I know what’s best for your health).<\/p>\n

I know it’s all great and wonderful that the city is paving the streets but the novelty of driving around on the fresh pav\u00e9 for entertainment will eventually loose its charm, that’s why us city folk need to venture out into the country every once in a while. I suggest you head out to the 28th<\/sup> annual Mulberry Fork Canoe and Kayak Festival<\/a>, which kicks off tomorrow morning. This event includes kayak and canoe racing as part of the Alabama Cup race series and Dixie Division Open Boat Championship. The course is spectator friendly with walking trails along the river, plus there will be a silent auction, raffles, and camping. If that doesn’t float your fancy I’d be displeased if you were to miss The Exceptional Foundation<\/a>‘s 5th annual Chili Cook-Off<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Whatever your daytime excursion, you need to be at Bottletree<\/a> Saturday night for the Blitzen Trapper<\/a> show. Tickets are $12 day of, and to learn more about the band read the interview<\/a> by our friend Birmingham Box Set<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sunday calls for a picnic and of course you have choices. You can either spread the blanket in Linn Park and enjoy downtown before walking to the Art Museum<\/a> to experience the Body Image: American Art and the Human Form<\/a> exhibit, or you can relax at the Highland park in front of the Virginia Samford Theatre<\/a> where the Arova Contemporary Ballet will present an afternoon\u00a0performance\u00a0of\u00a0Between the Lines<\/a>, a mixed media dance event and art show featuring local band Act of Congress<\/a>.<\/p>\n
