Tonight is the last Art on the Rocks<\/a> for the 2008 season. Your $20 gets you live music by Stoll Vaughan, food, art activities and there’s free parking in the deck on the corner of 8th Avenue North and Richard Arrington. Check out a video clip from our AOTR preview<\/a> post to hear how he sounds. The Birmingham Museum of Art event is scheduled for 5-10 p.m. Buy tickets online or call 328-7628.<\/p>\n

After you stroll around the BMA, head over to Workplay<\/a> for the annual Birmingham Chicks Rockfest. And that’s exactly what it is … chicks who rock. Taking the stage are Kip Taylor, The Rowbuxx, Chrys Black, Kathyrn Delacruz, Peanut & Mother May I, Ava Garland and Something N Between. That’s a lot of music yet tickets are just $15.<\/p>\n

I’ve got more music for you Saturday if you like the blues like I do. The Magic City Blues Society<\/a> will be having their Junkyard Juke 2008 Finale in, well, sort of a junkyard next to Tres’ Taylors Art Studio in Avondale. It’s a fitting location to listen to Delta Highway, Michael Carpenter and Bluesmill. You can show up with your BYOB-filled coolers at 4 p.m., music starts at 5. Tickets are $8 for members, $10 otherwise. Also, bring some cash for food. Find the music at the corner of 41st St. South and 5th Avenue South.

Get your exercise Sunday during the fourth of five tours to introduce folks to the coming-soon Red Mountain Park<\/a>. Follow the link to find out where to meet at 2 p.m. And from the website you can send them an e-mail to say you’re coming. Or you can play kickball in Avondale Park at 5 p.m. with the appropriately named Birmingham Kickball folks. All skill-levels welcome.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, if you are a fan of the Slip N’ Slide, head to Gadsden this weekend. They’ve got a huge banner, a Bear Bryant stamp actually, that needs cleaning and they want you to help. I found this gem of an event on activeculture.info so I’m sending you there<\/a> to get the 411.<\/p>\n

Personally, before the weekend is over, I’m going to be sure to stop by Lou’s Pub & Package Store to pause and remember Louis Zaden who passed away Thursday.
