Let’s all be serious here. We love to dance, just not out on the street or, for that matter, anywhere in the general public. Maybe it’s just my gangly white femaleness, but still. ALAS! I think I met someone this week that will change my, err your<\/em>, mind concerning all things “cuttin’ a rug” related.<\/p>\n

Rebecca Davis started ROCK PAPER ROCK<\/a>, a local booking agency that is responsible for a healthy percentage of Birmingham’s recent\u00a0lucky streak\u00a0when it comes to getting good bands (i.e. nationally known) to play our great city. She’s also a local girl who moved away, only to return with more love and affection for our great city. So, who better an ambassador to the indie music scene than her to introduce one of the best ideas<\/strong> I’ve heard about it a while?<\/p>\n

KIDS GOT THE DISCO!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s a dance party. No, really. And when I say awesome DJs will be pumping Bottletree full of goodness, I meeeeean it. Their music stylings\u00a0combine some exquisite electronic mastery a la\u00a0Simian Mobile Disco<\/a>, MSTRKRFT<\/a>, Mark Ronson<\/a> minus the instrumental involvement and Girl Talk<\/a>. It started when Rebecca booked two DJs and a dance team together to open for Lord T & Eloise<\/a>. The success of that show is what inspired KGTD.<\/p>\n

The local artists responsible are Dani DeLuna (*ahem* NASTIQUE<\/a>), Carlos Brown (better known as Charles III<\/a>) and the now defunct band All That\u00a0Fuss<\/a> — which has now morphed into this awesome dance team that is sort of like the Wiggles for grown ups if they gyrated along to NSFW-saavy Peaches<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So, here’s the challenge: If you dance to anything remotely groovish at home while you’re cleaning, come out. There’s a bar if you’re going to need a little liquid encouragement, as well as a bunch of cool kids and friends in abundance to sway back and forth with you. I’m going to do it. And if Birmingham leaves me hanging on this, they’ve got another thing coming. Also, if you’re half as haterish as me, you’ll enjoy the sightseeing as people are sure to bring their awkward pop and lock game in full force.<\/p>\n

Tickets are only $5, and kids: it’s 18 to party and 21 to “get right”.<\/p>\n
