Wild Sweet Orange<\/a>‘s new album We Have Cause to Be Uneasy<\/a>\"\"<\/em> is being released within a matter of days, and The Terminal was lucky enough to receive an advance copy. The strange thing is, I think I’ve already heard this before; let me explain.<\/p>\n

The first track is an updated version of their much-touted single Ten Dead Dogs<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0But as I moved on to the\u00a0newer tracks, my mind started to race.<\/p>\n

Everything in the national media reads pretty much the same with\u00a0frontman Preston Lovinggood being praised for his “slight Southern tinge” and “country influences”. I think I’m not alone\u00a0when I say that there are plenty of Birmingham\u00a0bands that have an\u00a0“alt country\/southern” charm that is more expansive and accurate. But for Wild Sweet Orange, this isn’t really a bad thing.\u00a0It’s VH1 and Grey’s Anatomy-friendly and that’s something the city’s music scene can cling to.\u00a0Four guys from\u00a0town on tour with Augustana<\/a> and being compared to Snow\u00a0Patrol<\/a> is certainly\u00a0attention that’s hard to shy away from. The band signed with Canvasback<\/a>, the same\u00a0folks that brought\u00a0you Manchester Orchestra<\/a>, The Swell Season<\/a> and Annuals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The songs\u00a0on We Have Cause to Be Uneasy<\/a>\"\"<\/em> seem frighteningly natural\u00a0for\u00a0driving music.\u00a0No matter which\u00a0one becomes your repeat offender, it’s hard to not be reminded of My Morning Jacket minus the reverb or Okkervil River. The lyrics are so suburban and dysfunctional, that you’ll instantly understand the comparisons being drawn between WSO and the Saddle Creek<\/em> style. “Light indie rock” they call it. I’ve even heard “indie folk”. This album has been two years in the works and lucky for Preston & company, it’s got a spark of mass appeal that has been spreading through acoustic indie lover blogs and mainstream outlets alike.<\/p>\n

Their album release show will be at Workplay on the 26th<\/sup><\/a>, the same night of The Terminal’s benefit show<\/a>.
