The Alys Stephens Center<\/a>\u2019s Starlight Gala<\/a> is this weekend, but who can afford to go to that.\u00a0 I know I can\u2019t and if I were to venture a guess I\u2019d say that you couldn\u2019t either.\u00a0 So what are the recently economically disillusioned masses to do while the urban haute bourgeoisie <\/em>of Birmingham sip cocktails on the campus of UAB.\u00a0 It\u2019s simple really, just read the rest of this post and realize that you aren\u2019t living in a one-show town.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been writing got plans 2.0 for several weeks now and it seems that I\u2019m always plugging a show at Workplay<\/a>.\u00a0 At first I was feeling bad because I figured I was leaving some other venue out of The Terminal\u2019s limelight.\u00a0 Then as I started to think about it I realized that Workplay ain\u2019t playing when it comes to bringing the shows to town.<\/p>\n

Tonight, $15 will get you in to see Copeland<\/a>, This Providence<\/a>, Paper Route<\/a> and Brooke Waggoner<\/a>.\u00a0 I was all over Copeland when Beneath Medicine Tree came out in \u201903, so I don\u2019t hesitate when I say you\u2019ll enjoy this show.<\/p>\n

Merrilee Challis<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0The Bottletree Cafe<\/a>\u00a0has an art show opening later this evening at the\u00a0Bare Hands Gallery<\/a>.\u00a0 Also showing is artist Tracy Martin.\u00a0 There’s a reception this evening from 6-10 p.m. So all you Bottletree fans come out and show some support for these local artists.<\/div>\n

Saturday it wouldn\u2019t hurt you to head back to Workplay for the Neko Case<\/a> show, which you can pre-game at the bham.fm pre-party<\/a> after you spend your day at the Birmingham Asian Cultures and Food Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Looking to Sunday, you wouldn’t want to miss the 15th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary party at the Garage Caf\u00e9<\/a>.\u00a0 I\u2019m not going to make any promises but you might find me there\u2026<\/p>\n

If two top notch Workplay shows, an Asian food festival, and an anniversary party at a GQ recognized bar doesn\u2019t get you out of the house, maybe you could head out to Wicked<\/a>, which begins its Birmingham performances this weekend, or you could take the kids to Walking With Dinosaurs<\/a>.<\/p>\n
