Palahniuk wrote that, “…the only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend.” That’s not necessarily true. If you set out on this weekend’s got plans adventure your going to be so giddy come Monday your going to be telling strangers on the street about your weekend because… well, because it’s just going to be that good.

I’ve got a road trip in store for you. “What,” you say, “A Road Trip?” Yes a for real Dirty South Alabama road trip. Tomorrow you need to gas up the car, grab some friends and head south to the small town of Waverly, Alabama for the 9th Annual Old 280 Boogie Arts and Music Festival. This one’s going to be a serious party…

This is a free community sponsored event going strong from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., rain or shine. Soak up some out door family fun with cakewalks, horseshoes, activities for the kids, and a Rowdy Rooster Puppet Show. There’s going to be food vended by locals restaurants Oskar’s Café, Strutting Duck, ?Wickles Pickles, Johnny Bruscos Pizza, Papa D’s Super Grille, and Campfire Coffees. Emcees for the day are The “Hot Damn” Boys. Plus music featuring: The Figs, Drake Jennings, 29 South, Dooleys Blue Revue, and The Pine Hill Haints. It’s also an art show so expect a host of artists and artisans showing off their craft. Be there!!!

Wow, the more I write about it the more I wish I were going to be there. I on the other hand will be racing the Cyclismo presented by the Birmingham International Center. After a brief hiatus, Birmingham’s first international bicycle race returns to its streets. If you’re in town tomorrow, come out and watch as cyclists compete for the $3,000 prize purse. The races will run throughout the day, and I guarantee we’ll put on a show. For the endurance athletes out there (in case you didn’t already know), the Powerman Duathlon also happens this weekend.

If awesome road trips and endurance athletic events aren’t your thing take heed to the following:

As for the obligatory hipster show mention, I’m going to forgo it this weekend and direct you to bham.fm for this weekend’s Bottletree lineup.

Going back to that Palahniuk quote, go ahead and let them ask you about your weekend. After you tell them be sure to have a smile on your face as they stammer after realizing that their weekend was laughably mundane in comparison to yours.

Be nice though and let them know where you got plans.
