Well said. I'm living in Dallas, however I grew up in Bham. I beleive that you can have it all (sometimes). What I've always thought would be a great addition to the city would be to tie Legion field to downtown via a complete renovation of the main streets that connect the civil rights district with Smithfield. This can be done by turning 8th Avenue et al, into another "Bham Green" and build town homes, apartments and shops along that boulevard. Also, encourage commercial development with $ incentives (the new SSA complex is already in place). Historical Parker High school is there also. I've alway was miffed as to why the city fathers never aggressively pursued an attractive boulevard to Legion Field especially since for years out of towners, national media, etc, traveled to that area only to see a blighted city scape with no true urban character. Talk to me!
