I would have to say the natural beauty of the metro area. Far and away the most prevalent praise I hear from those visiting from elsewhere is along the lines of “it’s so beautiful hear.” And it’s typically said with an incredulous tone. I think this is due to the fact that the various entities charged with promoting the city overlook this particular asset. My fear would be that those with the power to protect that beauty would overlook it or take it for granted and allow overdevelopment that would rob of us of one of the few assets that truly sets the metro area apart.

Birmingham’s biggest asset is it’s people! Despite the crooks that are giving (and have historically given) Birmingham a black eye, I have to say this is one of the friendliest and most caring cities. Here’s to hoping that we showcase only our best and brightest from now on!

Yes, I have to agree with both Wayne Franklin and Amy Dorminey. Birmingham has some of the most friendliest people in this country, but the best asset that the Magic City possess is its natural beauty. I’ve heard people compare the beauty of the hillsides of Red Mountain to Los Angeles and Pittsburg. Go figure! I think if we placed a sign similiar to the “Hollywood” sign in LA atop Red Mountain; what a buzz it would create? The sign would read “Southside” or “Red Mountain in big ‘ole letters!” I think it would not only draw tourists, but it would also create an interest from locals to explore the mountain. After that success, the city could look into erecting sky buckets in the center of 5pts south that take passengers atop the mountain to explore the trail, view Vulcan, or view the city for a nominal fee. Forward thinking cities would have alread taken advantage of the natural bueaty and created this tourist draw years ago! Come on, Get with it Bham…
