Magic City Question

What do you want to talk about Birmingham?

03.16.2009 by Andre Natta · 9 Comments

We’re anticipating making a major announcement later today (or at least this week) on the front page…

Because of that, we want to know what topics would you like to see more in depth conversations/coverage about in the coming months…

Let’s hear ‘em!

It might be interesting to hear how local non-profits, churches, governments, and businesses are helping people through the recession. What are local people doing to help local people?

In addition to nonprofits and government agencies that provide for the physical needs of people (food, clothing, etc.) also consider those that provide for the very important but intangible needs (spiritual, recreational, stress reduction outlets) which help us cope with times like these.

Personally, in this down economy, I want to hear about job fairs, in-town talks/conferences/conventions and things of that nature. I want to hear about events that have the potential to further our professional lives.

    Thanks!

I’m willing to take my hits as a Pollyanna, but I want to hear about hopes for the future and how we can do things today to shape the future in a positive way. I know a lot of the ways that people are helping others in their immediate needs, but I want to make sure we do more to make sure we come out of these hard times stronger and smarter than before.

Somebody recently called Birmingham the comeback city, because we’ve had hard knocks before, especially in the early ’80s, when unemployment in the western area was 25 percent. But we keep coming back…and coming back. So we should be thinking now about how we want our next comeback to look.

I would love to read more about the Birmingham music scene.

We’d love to write some more about the music scene and we plan to expand into that again. There’s also sites like bham.fm already in existence too. T

I’m hoping that we can do some musical events in the space though…

You know I love the down and dirty political stuff. Don’t want you to cover it, necessarily, but I would like to know about behind the scenes stuff. Also, I agree that everyone needs to know what help is out there and how to get it… jobs, faith, food, etc.

I would love to hear about things to do! Whats coming up and where to go! I am (relatively) new to Birmingham and need to get out more.

I agree with Brian, and I’m actually from here and still find myself wondering if there is anything going on. Brian, pick up a Black and White, it should be a start http://www.bwcitypaper.com/
