Yes, it is a question of what each of us can do as an individual; but what can a proper city council do to make the right decisions for the great city that is Birmingham, Alabama?

A “proper” city council still depends on who the individuals choose to fill those positions.
The question still remains what can individuals do to move the city forward and change the perception. To consistently blame someone else helps no one, especially the city.

“Consistently blame someone else?” Am I actually NOT supposed to “sound-off” and feel truly livid about how PREDICTABLY absurd and weak and pathetic the $75,000 pay off (with a RESIGNATION) today to Our Fair City’s Now-previous School Superintendent is?!!!!!???? And, as a School Board Member said on tonight’s news, am I actually AGAIN supposed to “just move on” and “put it all behind us?” Do all of these people who continue to make ALL of these backward and ignorant and self-serving decisions still REALLY NOT get why so many of us who once did all we could to support our local public schools come to the point where we say ENOUGH, I’m DONE?!?! They really don’t get it do they?!?! The people in charge are NO MORE there for the kids who attend every public school in the city than they are there for all of the tens of thousands or 100s of thousands of kids who could attend but MUST instead go to every one of our busting-at-the-seems private schools. IT is ONLY about retaining the status quo at every turn to keep anyone in place who hasn’t been “caught” doing something wrong or to protect those in place who already have “because of tenure.” If you even try to make a difference in our City’s School System and you don’t just “shut up and bide your time” they will chew you up and spit you out and be glad to have gotten rid of another “trouble maker” or “whistle blower.” It is very dangerous what they are willing to do to people’s families and lives in order to “keep the lights on” in the few schools they can still fill. I apologize preemptively for any misspellings or poor grammar as I am completely disgusted on our city’s and children’s behalf. So much for that good night’s sleep I almost got. I guess I had to be reminded of why I can’t even watch the local news anymore. Bless us all.

@thyme - Yes, you are supposed to vent. The question was about what we as individuals could do though.
They probably don’t get it. But what can we do to get them to get it? That’s the point of asking the question…

Join your local neighborhood Watch group. Attend the monthly meetings. Ask questions. Demand action… repeat.
