{"id":162,"date":"2009-07-08T09:55:57","date_gmt":"2009-07-08T16:55:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bhamterminal.com\/mybirmingham\/?p=162"},"modified":"2009-07-08T09:55:57","modified_gmt":"2009-07-08T16:55:57","slug":"bhamchat-july-7-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bhamterminal.com\/dearbham\/2009\/07\/08\/bhamchat-july-7-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"#bhamchat: July 7, 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> We&#8217;ll be posting the recap for #bhamchat Episode 2 later today, though the post will be saved in chronological order (meaning that it will appear as being the post before this one).<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s edition started with a rather quiet discussion about the decision earlier in the day by the Jefferson County Commission to not take part in the statewide sales tax holiday taking place in August.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q1:<\/strong> <span id=\"msgtxt2523252425\" class=\"msgtxt en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a> <em>looks like the sales tax holiday is the 1st topic tonight &#8211; what are your thoughts about JeffCo deciding to not take part this yr?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/bhamwiki\" target=\"_blank\">bhamwiki<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523357246\" class=\"msgtxt en\">Perhaps they consider it a trade-off with the court-ordered occupational tax holiday. <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/kb0989\" target=\"_blank\">kb0989<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523564767\" class=\"msgtxt en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a>&#8230;I&#8217;ve only lived in JeffCo for two years&#8230;but i keep seeing bad decisions and quick fixes rather than substantive changes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"msg\">\n<div class=\"msg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\"><span class=\"msgtxt en\">The conversation got a little more engaged when the discussion switched over to the recent radio station changes on Birmingham&#8217;s FM dial.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\"><span class=\"msgtxt en\"><strong>Q2:<\/strong> <\/span><span id=\"msgtxt2523604434\" class=\"msgtxt en\"><em>Radio carousel &#8211; anyone have anything else to say about the station change over at 105.5?<\/em> &#8211; <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/l9mlJ\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/bit.ly\/l9mlJ<\/a> <span class=\"expand\">(<a class=\"lit\" href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?max_id=2533360365&amp;page=6&amp;q=bhamchat#\">expand<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/images\/search\/expanding.gif?1247006542\" alt=\"\" \/>)<\/span> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/apollorockit\" target=\"_blank\">apollorockit<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523659472\" class=\"msgtxt en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/bhamterminal\" target=\"_blank\">@bhamterminal<\/a> Do people still listen to terrestrial radio? <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/logosmith\" target=\"_blank\">logosmith<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523696963\" class=\"msgtxt en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a> I do listen to terr. radio, but appeal of satrad, oddly, is that most radio isn&#8217;t really local anymore anyway.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"msg\">\n<div class=\"msg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\"><span class=\"msgtxt en\">@bhamwiki had a pretty interesting view of the situation as well:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/bhamwiki\" target=\"_blank\">bhamwiki<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523663905\" class=\"msgtxt en\">Broadcasting the same programming on multiple frequencies deprives the public of more choices, no matter what you like to hear. <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/bhamwiki\" target=\"_blank\">bhamwiki<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523751037\" class=\"msgtxt en\">Multi-market multi-station owners like clearchannel seem to be milking cows they don&#8217;t plan to have to feed. <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"msg\">\n<div class=\"msg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\">One question led to a link that probably tells us more about the current situation than anything else&#8230;<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/logosmith\" target=\"_blank\">logosmith<\/a>: <span id=\"msgtxt2523775157\" class=\"msgtxt en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23bhamchat\">#bhamchat<\/a> How many media companies actually control, say, top 90% of BHM radio?
