Editor’s Note:<\/strong> Scott Schablow<\/a> is a music lover and a fan of City Stages<\/a>. He was a volunteer for the first ten years of the music festival and attended City Stages for many years after that. He did not attend last year or this year due to what he describes as a lack of top tier and up-and-coming bands to stir his interest. He didn\u2019t want to let City Stages slip away<\/a> without saying goodbye. He decided what better way than a remake of an old classic American Pie<\/a><\/em>. – ACN<\/em><\/p>\n

A long, long time ago…
\nI can still remember
\nHow that music used to make me smile.
\nAnd I knew if I had my chance

\nAnd, maybe, they<\/span><\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span>d be happy for a while.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But has-been acts made me shiver
\nWith every song they\u2019d deliver.
\nBad news on the bank step;
\nThey couldn\u2019<\/span><\/span>t take one more step.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I can\u2019<\/span><\/span>t remember if I cried
\nWhen I read about his fallen pride,

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
\nStages flew off with a writeoff shelter,
\nHalf a million bucks and growing fast.
\nIt landed foul on the grass.
\nThe players tried for a forward pass,
\nWith vendors on the sidelines in a cast.<\/p>\n

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
\nWhile the sergeants played a marching tune.
\nWe all got up to dance,
\nOh, but we never got the chance!
\n`cause the players tried to take the field;
\nThe marching band refused to yield.
\nDo you recall what was revealed

\nA generation lost in space
\nWith no cash left to start again.

\nJack flash sat on a candlestick

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
\nMy hands were clenched in fists of rage.

\nTo light the sacrificial rite,
\nI saw satan laughing with delight
