Safari Cup Coffee unexpectedly left Birmingham’s coffee scene a little more than three years ago. It’s spent most of those three years in Chicago becoming a staple of the city’s Lakeview district. Now, it’s getting a new next-door neighbor – Starbucks.

The folks at Avondale Brewing Company and Main Street Birmingham want you to join them in their efforts to Occupy Avondale with more businesses. It’s a pretty cool space and you’d be across the street from a constant supply of craft beer. What more would you want? How about six months free rent too?

It took 15+ months to get the first one in place, but Einstein Bros is now in the metro Birmingham market. Their fans can now rejoice (and wonder if we’ll see more locations elsewhere in the metro area sooner rather than later).

The fate of the former Birmingham Fire Department Engine No. 22 building is partially in the hands of the city’s budget and finance committee. They will consider the proposal to sell to the developer wanting to replace it with a Walgreens. The full council must still vote after receiving the recommendation from the committee.
