It may still be a few years away, but thanks to a public/private partnership (and some federal stimulus dollars), next week consultants will be taking the first steps towards potentially establishing a high-speed rail link between Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA.
There’s a special election tomorrow to fill the unexpired term of former Jefferson County Commissioner (and now Birmingham, AL Mayor) William Bell. The crazy thing about this one is that we’ll be doing it again come July 13, and the results could lead to a couple more special elections. Time will tell…

The fate of the former Birmingham Fire Department Engine No. 22 building is partially in the hands of the city’s budget and finance committee. They will consider the proposal to sell to the developer wanting to replace it with a Walgreens. The full council must still vote after receiving the recommendation from the committee.
