We’ll be seeing a little less neon around metro Birmingham come the beginning of next year – unless Carmike finds a way to work it into their plans for the area locations they’re purchasing from Rave. It essentially removes Rave from the state market and gives Carmike control of an IMAX screen.

The Google Doodle for the United States on June 6 is the perfect excuse to take a look at what the metro Birmingham area drive-in theaters are playing this weekend – and to recognize how they came to be in the first place.

Meanwhile, a new multiplex on the city’s east side looks to eventually provide a couple of options for those not wanting to continue to drive elsewhere to enjoy indies.
