Sheryl Crow’s Tuesday Night Music Club… a disc that stands the test of time.

I’m not sure if I got some others with it, but the first CD I put into my first CD player was a collection of organ works by J. S. Bach.
It was probably 15 years before I got around to buying the CD version of the first cassette tape I bought — Paul Simon’s Graceland.

Y’know, I can’t remember exactly what the first CD I bought was! That seems crazy, but then again, it’s quite consistent with my terrible inability to remember much of anything.
It might have been Porno for Pyros. Geez. Or something…with green on the cover. How weird is it that I recall a dominant color on the cover art (possibly), but not an artist for certain. Memory is so screwy. There’s a small chance it was Dinosaur Jr.’s Green Mind. I kinda doubt that, though.
I *do* however remember the first cassette I bought: Rick Springfield’s Beautiful Feelings. Which is still in my closet at my parents’ house. This is not even the album from which the great, voice-of-indignant-man hit “Jessie’s Girl” came. No, this is the stunner that included “Bruce.” Which, I believe, is another whiny ditty–about being mistaken for Bruce Springsteen. Tough life, Ricky. Where are you now?
What can I say. I spent the first half of the 80s on a dead-end road in the boondocks outside Nashville.

I bought my first CD before I even had a CD player. (I used my roommate’s!) It was Paul Simon’s Graceland. Seems to be a theme…

Nirvana rereleased Bleach at nearly the same time Nevermind came out. I bought both on the same day, the year was 1991.
10 years earlier…..
My first vinyl album was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts ‘I love rock and roll’ and the year was 1981.

I don’t remember for sure but it was either a New Order or Smith’s cd.

Love and Rockets. The (less than great) self-titled one. Being able to instantly skip to different tracks was definitely my favorite feature of the CD.
