Magic City Question

The future of home delivery?

Scott Walker's digital newspaper box

This digital newspaper box (yes, it’s glowing) is a personal project of Scott Walker, an associate editor at The Birmingham News. It delivers headlines, sights and sounds to his living room thanks to an Mac Mini and a few hours of work.

Maybe not the future, but it definitely says something about how we get our news nowadays. Maybe we could do that someday ourselves .

Click here to learn more about how it was created and to see it in action courtesy of the man himself.

As he says,

"Sure, I could get the news on my desktop computer or mobile phone, but as a newspaper editor, I’ve got a soft spot for tradition."

  • this is a very creative idea and i love the fact it originated here in Birmingham. This is only the beginning of Birminghams creativity.

One of the design blogs I read featured this earlier in the week, which made me giggle because I remember seeing an old newsbox sitting around the old newsroom in the old building. Now I have to see which blog it was...

And now that I've read that, I really want one. Or an old newsbox, like the aforementioned. Because I think that's cool.
