The local United Nations Association chapter at Birmingham-Southern College is holding its annual fundraiser Wednesday to benefit the United Nations’ Adopt-A-Minefield campaign. The program assists countries across the globe in the elimination of mines intended for military purposes which instead cause the deaths of countless civilians. Landmines can cost as little as 80 cents to purchase but it costs approximately $1,000 to train and equip someone to remove them.Enjoy food donated from local restaurants — ROJO, GianMarco’s, Clumpy’s Ice Cream, Otey’s and more — and a keynote speech from Dan Hutchens, a member of the State Department Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement.

The event takes place in the Bruno Great Hall on the BSC campus, 900 Arkadelphia Road.

Cost: $10/$5 for students
